The HPV vaccine (against human papillomaviruses) protects against certain virus types that can cause various cancers – including tumors in the mouth and throat (oropharyngeal carcinoma). These cancers are increasingly seen in men as well and are often the result of infection with high-risk HPV types.
For this reason, HPV vaccination is recommended not only for girls, but explicitly for boys as well.
In Germany, the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends HPV vaccination for girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 14, ideally before the first sexual contact, as effectiveness is highest at that time. Catch-up vaccination is possible up to the 17th birthday.

Coverage by Health Insurance
For children and adolescents within the recommended age range (up to 17 years), statutory health insurance in Germany covers the costs of HPV vaccination in full.
For adults, the situation is different: in this age group, HPV vaccination is not routinely covered, as the protective effect is significantly lower once HPV exposure may already have occurred.
If you are an adult and are interested in HPV vaccination, you should contact your health insurance provider in advance to clarify whether the costs will be covered. If not, it is still possible to receive the vaccine as a self-pay service.
How We Organize HPV Vaccination in Our Practice
Because the vaccine is not kept in stock at all times, we order it individually for each of our patients.
If you are interested in HPV vaccination for your child or for yourself, please send us an email in advance. We will then check the availability of the vaccine and arrange an appointment with you – either directly for vaccination or first for a medical consultation.
